Restorative Yoga

Our Restorative yoga classes in Verwood provide a strong emphasis on rest and deep relaxation.  In this class the body is supported with props (bolsters, blocks, blankets, under floor heating and eye pillows) to find the most nurturing variations of postures.  When practised regularly, restorative yoga can help in the relief of fatigue and chronic stress.  This style of yoga will revive and restore your body, bringing a deeper awareness to your mind and body experience.

The antidote to stress is relaxation.  To relax is to rest deeply.  Relaxation is a state in which there is no movement, no effort, and the brain is quiet.  In this class the body will be put into nurturing yoga postures, with the aid of props, in which to support the body.  When practised regularly they will help you to relieve the effects of fatigue to chronic stress.

Restorative poses are poses of being rather than doing.  Each restorative sequence is designed to move the spine in all directions.  These movements illustrate the age-old wisdom of yoga that a healthy spine enhances well-being.  A restorative sequence will include back-bends, forward bends, twists and inversions.  This can be as simple as putting your legs on a bolster but the effects can be quite dramatic.  By changing the relationship of the legs to gravity, fluids that accumulate in the lower extremities due to sitting and standing all day are returned to the upper body, and heart function is enhanced.
